Angle Side Side

Triangle congruence theorems are so exciting. ;-) I was going over all of the possibilities for my students. ASA – Angle Side Angle, SAS – Side Angle Side, SSS – Side Side Side, and SAA – Side Angle Angle. Then I said my usual, “If you can spell ass, it doesn’t work. A-S-S is not a triangle congruence theorem.”

At the end of class while they were waiting by the doorway, two of the boys were doing a rap. (Yes, I’m finding this happens often). I was talking with an older gentleman that comes to tutor in my class and we were saying how nice it would be if they could remember their school work that well. When they stopped, I said, “Hey, could you make up one of those for the Quadratic Formula?” They laughed, shook their heads, like it was the stupidest idea they had heard. Then out of the blue in perfect rhythm comes:

“If you can spell, A-S-S, it’s incorrect. You get an F on the test.”

“See, I was listening.”
